Bermuda Travel Guide

Everything to send guests before they fly. Forward this page in your save-the-date.

Why this exists

Most of our weddings have guests flying in from three or four countries. This page is the one we tell couples to forward to their invite list. It's how Bermuda actually works, written by the people who plan weddings here every weekend.

How do guests get to Bermuda?

Bermuda is one hour and forty-five minutes from New York, two hours from Boston, and three hours from London. Direct flights run year-round on American, Delta, JetBlue, United, Air Canada, and British Airways. The single airport is L.F. Wade International (BDA) in St. George's. Most flights land mid-afternoon, so guests usually arrive the day before the wedding and stay through Sunday.

Where should Bermuda wedding guests stay?

Closer to the wedding venue is better. We share a vetted shortlist with every wedding party. Common picks: the Loren at Pink Beach (Tucker's Town), Rosewood Bermuda (Tucker's Point), Cambridge Beaches (Sandys), Hamilton Princess (city centre), and Coral Beach Club (Paget). We negotiate room blocks early.

How do you get around Bermuda?

Tourists cannot rent cars in Bermuda. The two real options are scooters (around $60 a day, the local rite of passage) and taxis. The pink Hamilton bus and ferry are excellent. For a wedding weekend, we usually arrange a coach for the largest guest movements and let people scooter the rest.

What should guests pack for a Bermuda wedding?

Lightweight summer clothes for May to October. A jacket for evenings October to April. Bermuda is more dressy than the Caribbean — most country clubs require Bermuda shorts (the kind that hits above the knee) and a collared shirt for men, and a light dress code at dinner. Bring sunscreen, a hat, and reef-safe sunblock.

What is the dress code at a Bermuda wedding?

Whatever the couple sets. Beach ceremony? Linen and bare feet are fine. Country club? Cocktail or black-tie. We send guests a dress code note three weeks out so they can pack confidently. Bermuda shorts with knee-high socks and a blazer is locally formal.

What is there to do in Bermuda between wedding events?

Snorkel the reef at Tobacco Bay or Church Bay. Walk the Bermuda Railway Trail. Eat fish chowder at the Black Horse in St. David's. Sunset at Horseshoe Bay. Tour the Crystal Caves. Round of golf at Mid Ocean, Tucker's Point, or Port Royal. We add a guest activity sheet to every welcome bag.

What currency does Bermuda use and how much do you tip?

The Bermuda dollar is pegged 1:1 to the US dollar and US dollars are accepted everywhere. Most restaurants and bars include a 17% gratuity automatically. If they don't, the same 17% is the local norm.

Will my phone work in Bermuda?

Most US carriers cover Bermuda as international roaming. WiFi is excellent at hotels. Dial +1 441 for local numbers. The country uses 110V outlets — no adapter needed for US/Canadian devices.
