Getting Married in Bermuda

The legal side, simply explained. The Registrar General's process, what you'll need, and how we handle it for you.

In short

File a Notice of Intended Marriage. Wait fourteen days. Marry.

Bermuda's marriage process is straightforward, but it has a calendar you must respect. Most of our couples never see the paperwork. We file the Notice on your behalf as part of full planning, track the fourteen-day window, and meet you with the license in hand.

Notice of Intended Marriage

Both parties file a Notice of Intended Marriage with the Registrar General. The Registrar publishes the notice for fourteen days. This step starts the clock on your legal marriage in Bermuda.

What you submit

Both parties' full names, addresses, dates of birth, marital status, and (if applicable) divorce or death certificates. A processing fee is paid at the time of filing. We share the current fee with our clients in our first call.

The fourteen-day notice period

Once the Notice is filed, it is publicly posted for fourteen days. If no objection is raised in that time, the Registrar issues your license. We plan around this calendar so it never bumps your wedding date.

License pickup

After the notice period closes, the marriage license is collected from the Registrar General's office in Hamilton. The license is valid for three months from issue.

The ceremony

The legal ceremony in Bermuda must be officiated by an authorised Marriage Officer (often a member of the clergy or civil registrar). Witnesses are required. We coordinate the officiant and witnesses as part of full planning.

After the ceremony

The signed marriage register is returned to the Registrar General. You receive an official Certificate of Marriage, the document used for legal name changes and visa filings back home.
